Crocus (Crocus species)
These corms produce dwarf 7.5-10 cm. (3-4 in.) plants with narrow grass-like leaves. They also produce attractive short-stemmed purple, yellow, white, or striped cupped flowers during the early spring. There are a few varieties that flower in fall. These corms can be naturalized in your lawn or planted under trees or shrubs. Plant crocus corms in early September, 10-15 cm (4-6 in) deep and 5-15 cm (2-6 in) apart. Daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus)
These bulbs produce 15-45 cm (6-18 in) plants, depending on the variety, with flat rush-like basal leaves. They also produce, in the very early spring, attractive white, yellow, orange, or bicoloured, nodding bell-shaped single or double flowers.
The Narcissus family contains many types of daffodils, the most common being 'King Alfred', a large bright yellow trumpet-like daffodil. However, there are several other varieties that grow well here. Most varieties are suitable for forcing indoors. Plant daffodils bulbs 20 cm. (8 in.) deep and 15-20 cm (6-8 in.) apart. The types and many varieties of daffodils we carry are listed below:

Fritillaria (Fritillaria species)
There are two main type of fritillaria bulbs: the large type, Crown Imperial (Fritillaria imperialis), grows to 90 cm. (3 ft.) high and has large yellow or red globe-shaped flowers. The variety 'LUTEA', with yellow flowers, and the variety 'RUBRA', with red flowers, are available. Plant Crown Imperial Fritillaria bulbs 20 cm. (8 in.) deep and 30 cm. (12 in.) apart. The smaller chequered lily (Fritillaria meleagris) has delicate bell-shaped white or chequered mauve flowers. Plant chequered Lily Fritillaria bulbs 10 cm. (4 in.) deep and apart.
Glory-of-the-Snow (Chionodoxa luciliae)
These bulbs produce 15 cm. (6 in.) tall plants with narrow grass-like toothed leaves, clusters of nodding blue white-centred flowers. Plant Chionodoxa bulbs 10 cm. (4 in.) deep and 5-10 cm. (2-4 in.) apart.
Hyacinth (Hyacinthus orientalis)
These bulbs produce 45 cm. (18 in.) tall plants with narrow grass-like basal leaves. They also produce fragrant showy columnar clusters of yellow, white, pink, or blue-purple flowers. Hyacinths are popular for forcing indoors (See Forcing Hardy bulbs Indoors). Plant Hyacinth bulbs 15 cm. (6 in.) deep and 15 cm. (6 in.) apart. The following varieties are available:

Grape Hyacinth (Muscari armeniacum)
These bulbs produce 10-15 cm. (4-6 in.) tall plants with long narrow leaves. They also produce clusters of blue, white or mauve urn shaped and drooping flowers. These bulbs are great for naturalizing, for rock gardens, or for forcing indoors. Plant muscari bulbs 5 cm. (2 in.) deep and 10 cm. (4 in.) apart. The following varieties are available:
- Album - white

- Plumosa - violet
Iris, bulbous (Iris Danfordiae)
These bulbs produce 10 cm. (4 in.) tall plants with long four-sided hollow leaves. Before the leaves appear in the early spring they produce long bright yellow brown-speckled reflexed iris flowers. These are good dwarf plants for the rock garden or for forcing indoors. The species (I. reticulata) produces 15-45 cm. (6-18 in.) tall plants with narrow grass-like leaves. They also produce solitary, bright violet-purple, orange-ribbed, fragrant, and reflexed iris flowers. These flowers are good for cutting. Plant iris bulbs 10 cm. (4 in.) deep and 15 cm. (6 in.) apart.
Lily (Lilium species)
Garden lilies are one of the most under used bulbs. A wide range of colours are now available, from the typical 'Tiger' orange to red, yellow, peach, rose, pink, purple, maroon, cream, and white. Many varieties are attractively spotted. Lilies may planted in the spring or the fall. Lilies bloom in the mid-summer rather than early in spring. Plant lily bulbs 15-20 cm. (6-8 in.) deep and 30 cm. (12 in.) apart.
Lily, Asiatic (Lilium Asiatic Hybrids)
These bulbs produce 75-90 cm. (2.5-3 ft.) tall compact plants with upright leafy stems. They also produce very attractive wide subdivided flowers in shades of white, yellow, orange, pink, lavender, and red, with or without spotting. Plant these bulbs in the spring and they will flower by late summer.
Lily, Oriental (Lilium Oriental Hybrids)
These bulbs produce 75-120 cm. (2.5-4 ft.) tall plants with upright leafy stems. They also produce fragrant wide and deeply subdivided bowl-shaped flowers in white, yellow, pink, or crimson stripes, or pink edged with white; all of which are generally spotted. They may be planted in spring for late summer bloom.
Lily, Trumpet (Lilium Trumpet Hybrids)
These bulbs produce 10-15 cm. (4-6 ft.) tall plants with upright leafy stems. They also produce fragrant large trumpet-shaped flowers in white, gold, greenish-white, pink, apricot and white with yellow centers. They may be planted in the spring for late summer blooming.
Lucky Clover (Oxalis species)
These tubers, rhizomes, or true bulbs (depending on the species) produce 10 cm. (4 in.) tall plants with compound clover-like leaves that fold together at night. They also produce solitary funnel-shaped red or lilac pink colored flowers. These hardy bulbs are planted in the spring rather than the fall. Plant oxalis tubers 10 cm. (4 in.) deep and 10 cm. (4 in.) apart.
Ornamental Onion (Allium species)
These bulbs belong to the large onion family. They produce 15 cm. - 1.5 m. (6 in. - 5 ft.) tall plants, depending on the variety, with typical hollow flat basal leaves. They also produce few or many white, yellow or pink to purple ball-shaped flower clusters on tall hollow stems. These bulbs prefer sunny locations. Plant allium bulbs 10-15 cm. (4-6 in.) deep and 10-15 cm. (4-6 in.) apart. The following two cultivars plus others are available:
- Moly Allium is 30 cm. (12 in.) tall and produces yellow star-shaped flowers. Commonly called Golden Garlic.
- Purple Sensation Alliums produce large purple, globe-like, long-lasting flowers on long stems.
A. azureum has azure blue, globe-shaped flowers on 18 in. tall stems.
A. christophii Star of Persia has globes of star-shaped, lavender flowers on 14 in. tall stems
A. giganteum Giant Allium has ball-like clusters of bright lilac coloured flowers on 4 ft. long stems.
A. sphaerocephalum Drumstick Alliums are 60 cm. (24 in.) tall and produce tight dense round, reddish-purple flowers on 1-2 ft. tall stems.
Snowdrops (Galanthus species)
These bulbs produce 1-3 cm. (3-8 in.) tall plants with narrow basal leaves. They have solitary nodding dainty white flowers very early in the spring. Plant these bulbs 10 cm. (4 in.) deep and 5-10 cm. (2-4 in.) apart.
Striped Squill (Puschkinia scilloides)
These bulbs produce 15 cm. (6 in.) tall plants with strap-like leaves. They have pale blue, blue-green striped, bell-shaped dense flower spikes. These hardy and long-lived bulbs multiply each year. Plant puschkinia bulbs 10 cm. (4 in.) deep and 5-10 cm (2-4 in.) apart.
Siberian Squill (Scilla siberica)
These bulbs produce 10-15 cm. (4-6 in.) tall plants with narrow grass-like leaves. They have small blue, white, or purple bell-shaped hanging flowers spikes. These bulbs are great for companion planting with tulips and are one of the best bulbs for naturalizing. The later blooming variety of S. hispanica grows 25 cm. ( 10 in. tall and produces large blue, pink, or white flowers. Plant scilla bulbs 10 cm. (4 in. ) deep and 8-12 cm. (3-5 in.) apart.
Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum)
These bulbs produce 2-4 cm. (6-10 in.) tall plants with narrow tapering pointed leaves. They have large clusters of star-like white or near white, black- or green-centred starry flowers in the very early spring. This is a great bulb for planting under trees and shrubs. Plant these bulbs 10 cm. (4 in.) deep and 15 cm. (6 in.) apart.
Tulip (Tulipa species)
These bulbs produce 10-75 cm. (4-30 in.) tall plants, depending on the variety, with wide bluish-green basal leaves. They have solitary flowers on thick upright stems that arise from the basal leaves. The flower shape can vary tremendously from slender and pointed to round and open-faced. Their flowering time can vary from early April to late May. The flowers are available in almost every imaginable colour including striped, mottled, and different coloured edges. No other spring bulb offers such diversity as the tulip. Tulips are great for indoor forcing. Plant tulips bulbs 20 cm. (8 in.) deep and 15-20 cm. (6-8 in.) apart.
