About Herbicides

Caution

Herbicides should be applied on a warm calm day, when rain is not expected for at least six hours. Care should be taken to apply herbicides close to ground level with either a heavy spray or a dust free watering can. Mist can be picked up by a slight breeze and carried to desirable plants. For best results, weeds should also be dust free.

Roundup

  • Roundup is a non-selective herbicide.
  • This means that it eliminates both grass & weeds.
  • Roundup is available in a Ready-to-Use hand held sprayer and as a concentrate.

Round-Up is a non-selective herbicide, killing most annual and perennial grasses, including lawn grasses, broadleaf weeds and brush. (i.e.) virtually anything that is green and growing). It is a trans located herbicide that is absorbed by the leaves and moves through the stem to the roots to kill the entire plant. Results usually takes 7 - 10 days. Repeat applications may be necessary as new seedings and vegetation emerge. Round-Up is not a soil sterilant. It has no soil activity and will not leach or run off to affect nearby vegetation.

Problem:
Undesirable grass and weeds in your patio, driveway or walkway. Not only unsightly, they can often lead to cracking or heaving. Hand weeding often removes only the tops of grass or weeds, leaving the roots intact, allowing the plant to grow back.

Solution:
Roundup Ready-to-Use. Only Roundup kills the entire plant, roots and all, so it never comes back. The Ready-to -Use format is easy and convenient.

Problem:
Flowerbeds or vegetable gardens full of weeds. Unwanted grass and weeds choke out your plants, robbing them of sunlight, water and nutrients.

Solution:
Roundup Concentrate. Eliminate weeds before planting in the spring and again in the fall so they don't come again back next year. Simply dilute Roundup Concentrate in a large watering can or apply with a pressure sprayer.

Tips: Dilute Roundup Concentrate according to label. Protect emerging bulbs by covering them with a flowerpot, jar or pail during Roundup application.

Problem:
Grass growing in areas difficult to mow. Sometimes grass can flourish along fence lines and buildings where lawnmowers can't reach.

Solution:
Roundup Ready-to-Use or Concentrate. Roundup is a perfect edging tool. It keeps difficult areas under control longer than lawn mowers or string trimmers. Use a piece of cardboard to shield the rest of the lawn and get a clean, straight edge.

Tips: Apply early in the morning or evening when the wind is down to avoid drift.

Killex

Killex is a selective herbicide. This means that Killex eliminates dandelions & other broadleaf weeds in your lawn without harming the grass. Killex is available in Ready- to-Spray with a hose end applicator, Ready-to-Use in hand held spray bottle & in Concentrate.

Problem:
Dandelions and other weeds taking over your lawn. Weeds can slowly choke out good grass and take over lawns or leave an unsightly discoloration.

Solution:
Killex Ready-to-Spray. For an average size lot, simply hook up the Killex Ready- to-Spray bottle and turn on the water. The applicator head automatically dilutes the proper amount of Killex. There is no measuring, no mixing, no mess. For larger areas, use Killex Concentrate mixed at 6 ml. per 1 litre of water. Let Killex dry 4-6 hrs., before allowing children or pets to enter the treated area.

Tips: For optimal results apply Killex either 3 days before or 3 days after mowing the lawn.

Feedex

Feedex is a liquid lawn fertilizer with weed control. This means with just 1 application it encour-ages grass to grow & kills weeds at the same time. Feedex comes in a pre-packaged, easy to use kit complete with a hose end applicator.

Problem:
Sparse, weedy lawn.

Solution:
Feedex. Simply attach Feedex to your hose using the supplied applicator. Turn on the water and spray evenly. The grass will thrive as the weeds whither and die.

Soil Sterilizers

Soil Sterilizers kill everything growing in the soil where they are applied. They can also move in the soil, and kill trees many feet away from the place of application. They move farther and more quickly in sandy soil than in heavy clay, and move in the direction water drains. Soil sterilizers can persist in the soil for several years. Remember that tree roots can grow a considerable distance, so they can move into an area where a long-lasting herbicide is still active several years after application. Generally, it is safer to use a herbicide such as Round-Up, which is decontaminated upon contact with soil and kills only what is sprayed.
